Ez a Bergman portréfilm legalább annyira szól magáról a svéd rendezőről, mint német rajongójáról, a film alkotójáról Margarethe von Trottáról. Nem is lehet ez másként, hiszen Trotta is az európai művészfilm jelese, többek a Katarina Blum elvesztett tisztessége és a Bergman hatásokat mutató Nővérek, avagy a boldogság egyensúlya rendezője. Elmegy a helyre, ahol a Hetedik pecsét forgott, és szakértő filmesként kielemzi a tengerparton a híres jeleneteket. Bemehetünk vele Bergman lakásába, megláthatjuk a házat, ahol Bergman felnőtt, ami a Fanny és Alexander helyszíne lett, és közben nem csak Bergmanról, nem csak alkotótársairól, mondjuk Liv Ullmannról – akit nem is olyan könnyű már megismerni – , Jean Claude Carrierről, Faragó Katinkáról és Bergmanhoz fűződő viszonyukról tudunk meg sokat, lényegeset, hanem magáról a rendezőnőről is, aki nem kis büszkeséggel veszi le az albumot, amibe Bergman a kedvenc filmjeit gyűjtötte össze: és Sjöström, Kuroszava remekművei mellett persze ott van a Nővérek is. Remek alkalom, hogy Trotta régebbi filmjeit is újranézzük, meg persze az olyan újabbakat is, mint a misztikus Vízió.

This Bergman portrait film is as much about the Swedish director himself as it is about his German enthusiast and creator of the documentary, Margarete von Trotta. It could not be otherwise since Trotta is a major figure of European art film and director of, among others, The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum and the Sisters Films showing clear Bergman influences. She goes to the location where The Seventh Seal was filmed and analyses – with an expert’s eye – the famous scenes on the seashore. We follow her on a tour of Bergman’s flat, we see the house where Bergman grew up and which became the location for Fanny and Alexander, and in the meantime we learn much not only about Bergman and his fellow artists, about Liv Ullmann and Jean-Claude Carriere, about Katinka Faragó and their relations with Bergman, but also about the director herself, who proudly takes down the album in which Bergman collected his favourite films: there, alongside masterpieces by Sjöström and Kurosawa, naturally we find Sisters as well. This is the perfect occasion to review some of the older films by Trotta, and of course a few of her latest efforts such as the mystical Vision.
